On July 30, the Bangkok Post reported the theft of a 2100-carat ‘diamond’ worth 315 million baht. The story sounded very hinky and today the ‘diamond’ was returned to its owner, who was told that it was a fake diamond or cubic zirconium by Thai diamond experts.
“I first saw the item, I immediately knew that it was not a genuine diamond.” The leading expert told news reporters. “If I were to buy it, I’d only pay 100 to 200 baht for it.”
The police have asked for confirmation of the stone’s physical make-up.
The owner has requested that charges be dropped against the thieves, one of whom said that he ran away with the box, because he thought it was a bomb.
On West 47th Street we call such stones a ‘fugazi’ or fake and the thieves must have been extremnely disappointed when the fence told them. “The diamond mii mee kaa.”
“Worthless.” They could have been shot. Jail is a possibility.
“Worthless.”
In this case it looks like everyone was fooling everyone else.
Som num nah.
