On Judgment Day the Thai Rak Thai Party discovered that the coup-appointed Constituition Tribunal did not love the previous ruling party for subverting the April 2006 elections. 111 members have been banned from any political activity for five years. This edict hasn’t prevented the top echelon from vowing to carry on the fight to restore the Party’s good name.
None of the proscribed member has shown any contrition.
“What me do wrong.”
The old veteran General Chavalit named as the possible successor to the deposed prime minister in shopping exile, Thaksin. ‘Big Jiew’ or ‘Little bit’ is always waiting in the wings for power like an old spinster awaiting a mail-order husband.
Thai Rak Thai Klum will be the phoenix rising from the fire, because Thaksin aka Maew like most Hmong can’t count.
“Hey, we will change the name from Party to Group.” Some genius had suggested, “No one will see the difference.”
If that is the case then we only have to go HL Mencken’s wise adage to forecast their possibility of success.
“No one ever went broke underestimating the stupidiity of the American public”
The TRT still has over 200 legal members, although some have defected to avoid losing face or nah sia. The strategy for the moment is to appeal the verdict of dissolution.
This possibility almost materialized when the head of the coup Sonthi announced plans of amnesty for the 111 TRT violators. His opinion of their innocence was based on not all Nazis were bad. Public outrage had the general eating his words as fast as a husband caught naked with a karaoke girl.
Sudchat Somchai of the Saturday People Against Dictatorshipwas also calling for leniency, stating that the country had need of these politician, since otherwise they would have to depend on people who don’t know the ins and outs of the system. Fears of amateur corruption seem to have initiated this jai yen or cool-headed approach.
What can common people know about life at the top?
At the present all political activities are prohibited for another two weeks.
Corruption withstanding.
“Without corruption the nation would flounder. No one could agree on what to do and when.” A scholastic said at a whiskey-fueled going-away party. In truth graft does help expedite decisions. Unfortunately not usually wisely as seen with the new airport.
The Thai Democrats were spared the ban by the Tribunal. They ahve learned their lesson and will be more careful about how they manipulate the public for the upcoming election.
Unseen Thailand indeed for the goings-on behind closed doors.
Thaksin has vowed to fight for truth and justice from his London house.
Party assets are zero.
But Thaksin’s wife has also been mentioned as his successor due to her proximity to her husband. Her hairdo is also very Maggie Thatcher. Iron Lady of thailand. Very Imelda Marcos also. Hate to have to see her face on the billboards.
Ugly enough to make a train take a dirt road.
My personal preference is for all politcal parties to be banned unless they favor the legalization of marijuana and peace at any cost as well as fight for a clean environment.
Call it the SNOWBALL IN HELL Party.
