While on a world tour in 1974 Sinatra was enraged by the treatment of members of the Australian press. The greeting scrum of reporters formed a barricade to prevent his leaving the airport and Old Blue Eyes retaliated with an on-stage tirade during which he called the press “bums and parasites,” and accused the country’s female reporters of being “buck-and-a-half hookers.”
Outraged by the superstar’s comments, the Australian aviation union refused to refuel or otherwise maintain his private jet until he apologized for his remarks.
“Never.” Frank refused to retract his statements and left the Down-Under after intervention by a high-level union leader.
His harsh critique of the female reporters came after one woman had slept with him to get a story.
“Regrets. I have a few, but then too few to mention.”
Old Blue Eyes did it my way.
