Back in 1978 I was walking down 5th Avenue around the 70s.
On a summer afternoon.
A large crowd was approaching from downtown. Hundreds of people. Traffic was stopped dead. A tangible electricity emanated from that direction and several seconds later I saw why.
Muhammad Ali.
I stopped in my tracks and Ali crossed the street.
“Ali, you’re the greatest.”
“We all are,” said the heavyweight champ, who extended his hand.
We shook and he proceeded uptown.
A great man.
Them, today, and forever.
