The USA lost over 600,000 jobs in January. Houses dropped 20% of their value if not more and the stock market experienced a China Meltdown from 14,000 plus to 8300, yet the GOP candidate of 2008 criticized the winner of that contest on the Senate floor by saying that the stimulus package was merely another spending bill.
The President shook his head and smiled in response.
“What do you think a stimulus is? That’s the whole point. No, seriously, that’s the point.”
John McCain, the feisty maverick, was quick to retort.
“The whole point, Mr. President, is to enact tax cuts and spending measures that truly stimulate the economy. There are billions and tens of billions of dollars in this bill which will have no effect within three, four, five or more years, or ever. Or ever.” John McCain wasn’t done yet either. “$50 million in funding for the National Endowment for the Arts — all of us are for the arts. Tell me how that creates any significant number of jobs? After-school snack program is probably a good idea. Do we really want to spend $726 million on it?”
Better to invade Iraq and kill thousands of innocent people.
Dumb fuck.
Obviously Senator McCain believes that there is a safety switch in the White House. This Jump-Start Device will spark an economic ‘surge’ by sucking more money into the coffers of the rich in order to get the trickle-down machine to work again. And this time the banks and rich will get it right, so everyone in America will once more think they are rich. This belief shows how far the GOP have drifted from the mainstream of this country if not the world and any senator voting against the stimulus package can assuredly contemplate in earnest a long vacation after the next election, for the American public is mad at the stalemate in Congress.
The GOP and their right wing flaks were always quick to point out that the popularity of the Congress was lower than that of GW F Bush without realizing that the hardened arteries of politics was their fault.
Fuck the Grand Old Party.
And I’d like to hear those suckasses from the democratic Party stand up for something more than stretching their Kobe Steak bloated flesh. They’ve been in the pocket of the rich too long too. The President needs to lead and it almost sounds like he is doing so when he says, “Here’s the point I’m making. This package is not going to be absolutely perfect, and you can nit and you can pick. That’s the game we all play here. What I’m saying is we can’t afford to play that game. We’ve got to pull together.”
And while we’re at it, why don’t we legalize marijuana.
The DEA is still arresting people like it was 2007.
