BANGKOK 8 like its follow-up BANGKOK TATTOO is a step away from the typical farang novels about betrayal from a sex tourist in love with a go-go girl. As previously stated the author John Burdett has a better insight into Thai life than those tales of woe from broken hearted drifters or even that of Stephen Leather’s PRIVATE DANCER or my own THE ITALIAN PLAN.
I envy his knowledge of the streets, language, and customs, while accepting that his hero and he know nothing. Nothingness is the goal of Buddhism after all and in this book nothingness can make you free.
