Bangkok-NYC Non-Stop No More

In 2005 I flew non-stop from Bangkok to JFK on Thai Airlines.

17 hours on a 747.

When I got off the plane in New York, I could barely walk and thought I might have experienced a stroke. My doctor later said the blood pooled in my legs for too long and I vowed never to repeat such a long flight.

Thai Airlines responded to my boycott by cancelling the non-stop service, although cited gas prices for ending the service, then also announced a fuel surcharge for future flights ranging from $30 for local return flights and up to $280 for trips to the USA.

Ouch.

No more friendly skies thanks to the gas-guzzlers and oil speculators.

If this keeps up, I’ll have to hijack a sailboat to get back to Thailand.
