Pattaya is now a city to the south. I’m staying in Chai-nat. Within the week I’ll be in the USA. The Land of the Freaked. For how long I don’t know. Like many foreigners living the dream in Thailand, my income has evaporated due to economic forces beyond my control.
But I had a good five years here.
Wife, daughter, dog, drinking at the Buffalo Bar, Soi 6, trips to Cambodia, not having to wear shoes, not having to wear a tie, speaking my mind, motorcycles, beer, drunk driving without the worries of breathalyzer tests, mangos, beautiful girls, tropical sunsets, palm trees. As my friend Sam Royalle says, “Everything will be here when you get back.”
“I know that.” It’s not the first time I’ve left Pattaya and it won’t be the last.
Living the dream in the purgatory of the West.
