Supposedly people tell lies at least 13 times a day and that’s not counting the ones we tell ourselves. Sometimes we tell the same lie so much that it becomes the truth. Pattaya is filled with foreigners re-inventing their pasts to suit their present personae. My history of nightclubs, diamond-dealing, and women is well-documented, however my friend Richard Winick of West 47th Street commented about my story-telling, “If it’s interesting, it’s true.”
Embellishment transforms a story from ordinary to interesting, although Hillary Clinton pushed the limits with her war story about a visit to Tuzla during the Bosnian War.
“I remember landing under sniper fire. There was supposed to be some kind of a greeting ceremony at the airport, but instead we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base.”
Unfortunately for the ex-president’s wife video cameras captured her arrival. A young girl presents her with flowers. Another reads a greeting poem. Over 4000 US soldiers guard the perimeter. Hillary smiles with warmth. No snipers. No running.
Opps.
“Maybe I misspoke,” Hillary admitted in a press conference. “It prove I’m human.”
No one has ever thought she was anything, but human and she did not misspeak. She erred.
