Thailand’s 25th Prime Minister

People Power party leader Samak Sundaravej trounced pretty boy Abhisit Vejjajiva of the Democrat Party in a parliamentary election for prime minister 310-163. His appointment will be formalized by a royal decree, thus capping 30 years in Thai politics with the ultimate triumph, however many pundits feel his reign will be short, due to corruption charges haunting the 72 year-old ex-Bangkok governor.

Somefire trucks exceeded the sticker price.

A devote rightist Mr. Samak was a key supporter for the suppression of opposition figures in 1975 and 1992 and brashly rejected US criticism by saying that he would seek out dissidents as long as the USA sent troops overseas to kill people in foreign lands.

His charisma grates on the intellectuals and city folk, but he has support from the common people thanks to his down home approach.

“I will still go to the market to buy groceries before returning home to cook and share meals with my wife. There will be no celebration. I will continue with my normal life.”

Thaksin Shinawatra is seen as the eminence gris behind the mercurial Samak rise to power, however Old Blue Eyes has to be aware that PM Samak is no one’s puppet. Least of all his own.

In numerology the number 25 can be broken into 2 and 5.

2 symbolizes ‘partner’ and 5 refers to ‘progress’.

Could Samak surprise his critics?

Stranger things have occured in office.

I wish him well.
