FROM BANGKOK POST
Recently, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown suggested citizens come up with a five-word motto to capture concisely what makes Britain great.
He might be having second thoughts after seeing some of the hundreds of suggestions the Times newspaper has received.
On the positive side someone suggested: “Britain, a terribly nice place” and another offering was: “Less stuffy than we sound.”
“Sorry, is this the queue?” certainly has a British feel to it while one citizen saw the modern nation as: “Dipso, Fatso, Bingo, Asbo, Tesco.”
Inevitably the weather got a mention as in: “It turned out nice again” while British sporting prowess was reflected in: “We strive for valiant defeat”.
Perhaps the most realistic offering was: “Let’s discuss it down the pub.”
One suggestion from a disillusioned citizen was: “Land of yobs and morons”, while another offering looked on the bright side: “At least we’re not French.”
