HM the King of Thailand was released from Siriraj Hospital Wednesday after 26 days of treatment to take up residence at Chitralada Palace.
I watched his departure on TV.
At first he was wheelchaired down a corridor in view of his adoring subjects. The mere sight of their monarch was enough to send the thousands of well-wishers into a royal reverie. HM the king wave brought them to a higher state, though few were prepared to see his majesty rise from the wheelchair and take a few unassisted steps to lay offerings at the statues of his parents.
I actually shed a tear of happiness.
He was wearing a pink jacket. A sign of peace. His worshippers were in yellow. A show of respect. The king took a few photos of the crowd and then proceeded to leave the hospital under his own steam.
The nation of Thailand has improved its happiness index.
May HM the King live forever.
