The BBC News published a list of the places that the Blacksmith institute considers ’most polluted on earth’ for 2007. Sumgayit, Azerbaijan with its petrochemical complexes won the gold. The two runners-up were as expected from China, however I was surprised not to see Rayong’s infamous Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate. if you click on Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate pollution Google reveals a menu of toxic woes emanating from Map Ta Phut. Of course the project managers deny any problems.
None have addresses within a hundred kilometers of the plants, but they must have released a collective sigh of relief to not have been mentioned by Blacksmith Institute.
Strangely that site www.blacksmithinstitute.com isn’t available in Thailand.
Was Map Ta Phut #11?
