As previous reported Thais and farangs have not been feeling as happy as in 2006. Whatever the reasons a Swiss national decided to step into space off the 56th Floor of Pattaya Park Beach Resort. He was not a base jumper.
His impact in the parking lot did not add to the general malaise as he missed several parked cars. Police reckoned him dead on arrival from massive trauma.
This failed Icarus’s pockets held had a passport, a pack of cigarettes and a 200 Baht ticket for sightseeing from the tower. This ticket had no warning about jumping from that height. Witensses said he dove off the roof as if he were competing in a diving event. Police found no suicide note.
Every week the papers and TV sordidly report several such tragedies. Modus operandi for most suicides seems to be jumping or pills. Many others appear to be slowly killing themselves with beer and cigarettes. Can’t tell which will bring them over the finish line first.
Causes for these early demises are either run out of money or girlfriend run off.
Can’t face life back in the home lands or existence without their tee-lat.
I know we get sad. I get sad too. But ending it all?
Not that I believe in Hell, but the nuns told me that all suicides go to hell after a long time in purgatory and are denied burial in a churchyard. So I’m sticking around.
Sometimes it’s the only course of action left and we applaud the Swiss diver on his technique.
He gets a 10.
The park cleaners would not be so generous.
