The Thai Prime Minister announced Bangkok will have two international airports with the re-opening of Don Muang aka Don Ho. Suvannabhumi or Cobra Swamp International will continue operations, while investigators try and unwind the tangle of corruption which has lead to too few toilets for passengers and Thai Air officials alike. Repairs to the new terminal are expected to be finished as soon as the contracts are signed to responsible parties.
Faced with the new airport’s imitating the Titanic inexorably sinking into the floodplain, many Thais and farangs are predicting the complete closure of Suvannabhumi, although some Thai airline higher-ups are saying that the present condition of the tarmac isn’t too bad for zeppelins and hobby planes.
The new terminal’s architectural plans date back to the 80s. All that glass is so retro and impossible to clean let alone air-condition the interior. So it’s back to old Don Ho.
I just hope they open the massage parlors in Don Muang and the Hello-goodbye Lounge for those sad departures and cheerful arrivals of long-awaited farangs.
“Now boarding.”
