Some bad ideas won’t go away as evidenced by Pattaya’s City Council announcing further consideration about opening a new mall on Beach Road. This pet project was forwarded by the out-going mayor, who promises to obey the same environmental constraints as Suvannabhumi Airport.
In other words none at all.
Plans call for high voltage lines to be draped over neighborhoods like spaghetti. The planners say these wires will pose no danger to the citizens of Pattaya as long as they live someplace else.
My brother-in-law as a lawyer for a US Electric Company defended their position that emissions from these high-voltage wires was non-threatening. The company paid scientists to refute any charges from claimants seeking payment for health risks. When I asked him if he would buy a house underneath these wires, my brother-in-law, whom I consider to be very honorable now that he has left ConEd’s employ, said without hesitation, “No.”
Base jumpers have testified that their shoes melt as they wait to jump off the pylons.
