I watch DVDs every night. My judgment on what is good or bad or mediocre is determined by how often I fast-forward to the next tolerable scene. Some movies once or twice, other often, but I just condensed MARIE ANTOINETTE into about 11 minutes. If the DVD player had sped at more the 16 times the film speed, then I could have made it even shorter.
Sophia Coppola both wrote and directed this waste of money. Actually there is little writing and the direction is more like a trendy catering service for an expensive wedding or bar mitzvah. I don’t fault the actors and actresses. Nepotism is completely to blame.
Being the daughter of Francis Ford Coppola certainly helps open doors. I just wish someone would have the courage to say that she sucks as a film maker. Her first movie sucked and I think her second one did too.
The only saving grace is that the opening song is from the great punk band THE GANG OF FOUR. Hopefully someone will cut off Ms. Coppola’s funds as easily as the guillotine lopped off the Queen’s head to end the Bourbon reign of France.
